This position provides the clinical and administrative leadership for the Bariatric Program. The Coordinator works closely with the members of the bariatric and general surgery departments to manage all aspects of bariatric surgery hospital accreditations and certifications. Coordinates bariatric surgery services as a leader of an interdisciplinary team of caregivers. Operational responsibilities include the coordination of patient scheduling, comprehensive patient education, staff education, postoperative after care, and outcome management.Bariatric Program Coordinator Opportunity

Primary Responsibilities:

Community Education: Develops programs to inform the community about bariatric surgery and support programs. Ensures that education programs are progressive and evidenced based. Coordinates Bariatric Support Group and follow up activities.

Finance: Maintains up to date knowledge of reimbursement and revenue cycle as it relates to payment of for Bariatric Surgery procedures and care. Interfaces with insurers to establish rates and reimbursement. Collaborates with fiscal department to track and monitor revenue. Participates in the establishment of an annual budget for the program. Reviews monthly financial reports and researches variances and takes corrective action as appropriate.

Quality: Oversees data collection and ensures the submission of accurate, reliable data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Bariatric Data Registry Platform. Coordinates the activities of the selection review committee.

Patient Education: Creates patient education materials and provides direct patient education as required. Ensures staff are up to date on appropriate patient education approaches and ensures that materials reflect evidence based practices. Updates materials as needed to reflect new information.

Human Resources: Provides leadership to staff in providing care to the Bariatric patient population. Develops competency programs to build staff skills and ensure clinical competency of staff. Provides ongoing feedback and development to staff. Participates in staff selection and evaluation as it relates to the provision of care to the bariatric population.

Regulatory Compliance: Maintains current knowledge in all aspects of regulatory compliance. Ensures that ACSBCN accreditation is maintained.

Leadership: Leads the development of a coordinated multi-specialty care team.

Qualifications:

BS Degree required; MS Degree preferred. NYS RN license. Minimum 5 years in a leadership position in surgical care. Experience with bariatric surgery programs preferred. Computer and Internet experience required. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products required (Word and Excel) PowerPoint and Access proficiency preferred

Database data entry and/or management experience preferred. Basic statistical knowledge preferred. Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.
